New York City Happenings – Bee Scene: Only in New York, kids

Posted Tuesday, July 15th, 2008 at 10:06 am by Amanda in Cultural Bees. More in 10036

This week I’m focusing on events that only take place in this fabulous town. Enjoy!

The list of Carnegie Hall Neighborhood Concerts will soon be up on their website. Make a point to check back for concert listings for July and August.

Head to Central Park on Tuesday, July 15 at 8 p.m. to hear world-renowned pianist Lang Lang –for free!– at the second outdoor New York Philharmonic concert of the summer. As always, get there early and don’t forget the corkscrew.

Broadway in Bryant Park features an hour of free Broadway entertainment from a variety of current shows from 12:30-1:30 p.m. every Thursday through August 14. If you haven’t already purchased your ticket to In The Heights, the 2008 Tony Award winner for Best Musical, pack a lunch and catch their free short performance in Bryant Park next Thursday, July 17.

CityRoom published an excellent list of free outdoor movies taking place all over the city. I’ve already forwarded the list to my friends. Given my penchant for falling asleep as soon as a movie starts, at least now I can do it under the stars. I just hope my friends wake me up when it’s over!

And, most interesting to me was yesterday’s press release from the New York City Opera, which stated that the company would be undergoing a renovation of their Lincoln Center campus. To accommodate those culture vultures, City Opera plans to perform in all five boroughs during their 2008-2009 season. This might prove to be an excellent way to capture subscribers in other boroughs. Be sure to check out the dates and locations.
