Chuck to Bloomberg: Yo, Hands Out My Cage Or You Get More Winter and Rabies!

So, it’s winter folks and despite the fact that Staten Island’s Chuck bit Mayor Bloomberg (LOL!)…

… it looks like spring is not quite here. Why not embrace it? Drink hot cocoa! Wear long underwear! Cuddle! Here’s a couple ways to do just that.

Winter Jam ’09!

So, NYC is hosting a Winter Jam this weekend in the East River Park. Horse Drawn Sleighs! Free samples from local farmers!

* The Future of Snowboarding Invitational
* Sledding on a 70-foot long Snow Flume (line closes at 3:30 p.m.)
* A snow sculpture contest*
(Register in advance to guarantee a spot in the contest).
* Ice climbing wall
* Cross-country skiing and snowshoeing
* High flying trampoline entertainment from The Skyriders
* Pride of NY Warming Hut & Winter Market
* Live music from Apollo Run, Dujeous, and more!

And, of course, it is, as Adrian Benepe, Commissioner New York City Department of Parks & Recreation says “our favorite four-letter word that begins with F”

….ahem, that’s FREE! (watch the whole video for that gem of a quote!)

One of the musical acts of Winter Jam ’09 Dejeous, is offering a free download of their song “Internet Friends.” It’s HIGHlarious. Get it here.

V-Day is Free Day!

Finally, embrace your sweetheart this Valentine’s Day. Follow these three steps for a Valentine’s Day date that will impress your hipster honey:

Leo Villareals Stars

Leo Villareal's 'Stars'

1. Stroll up to BAM and check out Leo Villareal’s Stars. A gorgeous light installation on the outside of The Peter Jay Sharp building.

2. Stroll inside the Peter Jay Sharp Building for a quick peak of Chris Piazza’s exhibition ‘Winterland’ in the Natman room, and finally

3. Stick around for a free JaPanther + Ninjasonik concert in the BAMCafe. Japanther + Ninjasonik, are just one combo act offered as part of the “Sounds Like Brooklyn” Music Festival. Prices aren’t incredibly cheap at BAMCafe, but you’ve gotten so much for free already, and well, you really need to get some tonight, which, in this thrifty’s rule book, is a good reason to spend at least a little money.
