Fitness Buzz: No Gym? No Problem!

Now that the weather has finally started to cooperate, you can enjoy all that New York fitness has to offer – for free!  You’re out of excuses because I’ve found something for you to try every day of the week:

MONDAYS

Group Training Runs

WHAT:   Weekly runs sponsored by Nike. Join running enthusiasts of all abilities.
WHEN:   6:30 PM weekly
WHERE: Meet at New York Running Company at The Shops at Columbus Circle

TUESDAYS

Bryant Park Tai Chi

WHAT:   This ancient Chinese martial art is taught by a member of the Tai Chi Chaun Center. Tai Chi is also linked to increased energy and better mental health.
WHEN:   7:30-8:30 AM through October 6th
WHERE: Bryant Park Fountain Terrace (41st St and 6th Ave)

Pilates Mat Class

WHAT:   Pilates class that tones and strengthens every muscle in your body
WHEN:   6:30-7:30 PM through August 25th
WHERE: Riverside Park South, The Plaza at 66th Street

WEDNESDAYS

Laughing Lotus Yoga in the Park

WHAT:   Laughing Lotus, the independent Yoga studio in Chelsea offering free outdoor classes. Some mats provided, bring your own if you have one.
WHEN:   7:00-8:00PM through September 2nd
WHERE: Meet at 10th Ave between 14th and 15th Streets

THURSDAYS

Fitness in the Square

WHAT:   Three back-to-back fitness classes in the middle of Union Square
WHEN:   8:00 AM – Yoga with Prana Power
9:00 AM – Low Impact Cardio class
10:00 AM – McBurney YMCA Tai Chi
Through August 13th
WHERE: Union Square Park South Plaza

FRIDAYS

Run own your own

Strap on your running shoes and go for a jog or walk in Central Park to start the weekend off on the right foot. The reservoir has a dedicated runners path (no bikes allowed) that is about 1.6 miles long. Another great jogging path is he Bridle Trail, which loops even further around the reservoir at 4.2 miles.

SATURDAYS

Kayaking on the Hudson

WHAT:   A 20 minute introductory kayaking lesson that sets you up to do it on your own
WHEN:   10:00 AM – 5:00 PM through October 10th
WHERE: 72nd St and Hudson River at the Downtown Boathouse

Moondance

WHAT: Free dance lessons at 6:30 by “Dance Manhattan” featuring live music
WHEN:   6:30 PM through August 9th
WHERE: Meet at Pier 54 in Hudson River Park at W. 14th Street
