Kids Sports Mania: Tennis Class in Park Slope

Posted Sunday, May 10th, 2009 at 6:54 pm by esther in Family Bees. More in 11217

I have begun teaching a tennis classes in Park Slope recently. For those of you living in that ‘hood, the classes are on Saturdays at P.S. 282 from 1pm-2pm and 2pm-3pm. The classes have been wildly successful. In the first two classes, the children have left exhilarated and famished.

Some of the activities that are greatly enjoyed by the kids are fruit salad, a game where students hit the ball when their assigned fruit is uttered by the instruction. The kids run around the gym when the instructor calls out “fruit salad.” Everyone always zooms around the gymnasium screaming with joy. This game is used as a tool to learn forehands, backhands, volleys and more. Another favorite activity for the children is the alphabet game where students receive a letter every time they hit the ball. This game forces students to focus intently and make sure that they do not miss. Everyone wants to get to the end of alphabet first. More games will follow in future blogs.

This neighborhood is nifty. Park Slope is a neighborhood awash with artists, actors, young professionals, families, and hipsters. The neighborhood has an affable, trendy, politico vibe. And best of all, there is parking that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg or leave you worried if you have enough time on the meter.
