New York City Music Scene – The Sweet Beat: Plug It In

Posted Friday, January 16th, 2009 at 2:56 pm by Carlos in Social Bees. More in United States

Over the weekend, I was invited to a Hip-Hop showcase at Bowery Poetry Club. Unfortunately mother nature had other plans…

The snow and frigid temperature forced the showcase to cancel. Undeterred by the weather, I called up a few friends to hold a jam session. One of my friends came up with the idea to go over to Central Park and have a jam session in the middle of the park. As crazy as this sounds, we were all for it!

Next thing you know we’re carrying our equipment on the buses and trains. Once we arrived at Central Park, we unpacked everything as quickly as possible and started playing. What started off as a frigid jam session ended up a heated dance party. Curious bystanders wandered towards us to see what was going on and a few even started dancing. We played for about 30 minutes until the police told us we needed a permit and forced us to stop. Although the jam session was short lived, the experience was incredible. I developed a cold because of this outing, but how many people can say they had a jam session in a snow covered Central Park?
